Advanced Training Course on Support and Adaptation of Veterans

Educators of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University took a training course on supporting and adapting veterans.

From April 9 to May 2, 2025, the advanced training course “Training of Trainers for Building a System of Support and Adaptation of Veterans in Educational Institutions” was held at the Veteran Development Center of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” in distance and in-person formats. The program was developed as part of the international project Veteran Support and Adaptation Training for Educators in partnership with the NGO “Integral Education” with financial support from the US Embassy.

39 educators from different parts of Ukraine including Kharkiv, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Uman, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and other cities – participated in the event. The participants represented Veteran Development Centers at universities and colleges.

Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was represented at this training by Yaroslava YURKIV, Head of the Veteran Development Center, and Anton NAZMIIEV, Psychologist of the Center for Adaptation and Psychological Recovery.

The goal of the course was to prepare educators to create an effective system of adaptation and support for veterans in institutions of higher, professional pre-higher and professional (vocational and technical) education.

The program consisted of three substantive modules:

• Module 1. Adult education: basics of adult education, psychology of the educational process, communication, features of the training format.
• Module 2. Interaction with a veteran in the educational environment: recognition of needs, adaptation to civilian life, issues of mental and physical health, overcoming trauma, the role of a teacher, stress management.
• Module 3. University as a support community for veterans: formation of the institution’s veteran policy, creation of support networks, inclusive educational environment, social protection system.
