From April 1 to 5, Chernivtsi became the center for intellectual competitions, hosting the IV stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Geography Olympiad. Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Geography and Earth Sciences of LTSNU, Iryna Melnyk, joined the jury. A total of 147 young geographers from 24 regions and Kyiv competed for the title of the best. The organizers, including the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Department of Education and Science of the Chernivtsi OVA and the Cooperative Educational Institution “Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education of the Chernivtsi Region”, ensured a high level of the event.
The participants of the Olympiad demonstrated their knowledge and skills in theoretical and practical rounds, solving complex geographical problems.
The jury, which included the best representatives of the geographical community of Ukraine, provided the most objective assessment, determining the winners. During breaks between work, participants and jury members had the opportunity to get acquainted with the cultural and historical monuments of Chernivtsi, visiting the local history, natural history and geological museums. The highlight was an excursion to the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, located in the former residence of the Bukovyna Metropolitans – an architectural gem included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was pleasant to get acquainted with the Faculty of Geography of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University and communicate with colleagues.
This event once again showed how talented and educated the youth of Ukraine is, who, despite the challenges of wartime, are able to demonstrate high results in intellectual competitions in geography. This success was also ensured by teachers who made a lot of efforts to prepare young geographers to participate in the final stage of the Olympiad.
The organizers and jury expressed their gratitude to all participants, teachers and guests of the Olympiad for their active participation and support.
