On April 3, 2025, the Methodological Seminar of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine was held on the topic: “Strategic guidelines and innovative practices for establishing Ukrainian national identity under martial law.” The event brought together more than 500 participants — representatives of central executive bodies, scientific institutions, educational institutions and public organizations.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was presented by Olena KARAMAN — rector of the university, corresponding member of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor.
In her report on the topic “Personal security and national identity in the informational and psychological dimension of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine,” Olena Karaman deeply revealed the issue of security as a multi-component system. Using a video presentation, she focused on the concepts of global, national and personal security, drew a line between the terms “person” and “personality”, and described in detail the needs of the individual according to Maslow’s pyramid, in particular the need for security, belonging, and stability.
The report paid special attention to the structural components of the individual, its development, and psychological states during the war. In particular, the impact of hostilities, losses, and prolonged stress on a person’s psycho-emotional state was described, as well as the importance of support, self-realization, and educational security as a component of national identity.
Within the framework of the sectional meetings, the participants discussed topical issues of the formation of Ukrainian national and civic identity in wartime: challenges for the education system, pedagogical practices, the importance of language and culture, the role of historical memory, the influence of youth movements and volunteerism, as well as media and social networks in shaping the consciousness of young people.
The seminar resulted in a number of recommendations at the national level that will serve as the basis for further decisions in the field of educational policy and humanitarian security.
The event became an effective platform for strategic dialogue between science, government, and civil society. Its goal is to strengthen national unity, strengthen Ukrainian identity, and security in the context of martial law.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University once again confirmed its scientific, civic, and educational position as an active participant in important social transformations.
