26.3.2025
On March 25, a round table “The Role of Historical Local History in the Training and Daily Work of Education and Culture Workers” was held.
The initiators of its holding were the Department of History and Archaeology of LTSNU and the Coordination Council for National-Patriotic Education, the Establishment of Ukrainian National and Civic Identity at the Starobilsk City Military Administration of the Starobilsk District of the Luhansk Region.
The purpose of the round table was to discuss current problems and opportunities for using historical local history in the training and daily work of teachers in the conditions of the information war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Among the participants were history and civic education teachers, cultural workers and local government officials of the north of the Luhansk Region.
The head of the Starobilsk City Military Administration, Yana Litvinova, addressed the participants of the round table with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of patriotic education of children and youth based on the materials of the history of the territories that are currently temporarily occupied, and also emphasized the key role of education and cultural workers in this process.
The reports of the head of the Department of History and Archeology, Professor Oleksandr Naboka, and the associate professor of the department, Olha Drobysheva, were proposed for discussion, in which they highlighted their own experience and practical possibilities of using local history materials in the educational process of the Higher Secondary Educational Service and Higher Educational Institutions as a way to counter the information aggression of the Russian Federation using the example of the history of the Luhansk region.
The reports caused a lively reaction from the audience. During the round table, the participants expressed their opinions on the importance of including elements of local history both in school programs and in training programs for future teachers, the need for further research on the history of the Luhansk region and their popularization at all levels – from school and student to professional by university scientists, employees of museums, libraries, houses of culture, and amateur local historians. This is especially important in the conditions of the temporary occupation of the territory of the Luhansk region, as it allows students to form a sense of pride and belonging to their small homeland.
