Participation in the International Workshop on Women’s Leadership

On March 24, 2025, representatives of the university took part in the international workshop “Women’s Leadership for Resilience and Transformation: A Global Dialogue”, supported by the British Council in Ukraine.

The event was attended by Iryna V. MYHOVYCH, Director of the Institute for International Education and Head of the International Relations Office, and Liudmyla A. OVCHAROVA, Head of the International Education Sector of the International Relations Office.

The workshop was organized within the framework of a joint project between Mariupol State University and the University of Hull – “Strengthening Women’s Leadership in Ukrainian Higher Education: An Intersectional and Culturally Relevant Perspective.” This project aims to develop innovative approaches to fostering women’s leadership in academia. It includes a series of training sessions, workshops, and mentoring programs for female researchers, the creation of a support network for knowledge exchange between Ukrainian and British educators, and the development of guidelines for integrating gender-sensitive practices into higher education management.

The event was held in a hybrid format, with some participants joining online while the in-person workshop took place at the University of Hull, UK. The meeting gathered representatives from educational and research institutions, NGOs, and organizations from Ukraine, the UK, Sri Lanka, Germany, and Switzerland. Participants discussed gender equality, the role of women in transformative processes in education and society, and steps towards creating an inclusive academic environment. Special attention was given to the experiences of implementing women’s leadership projects across different cultural contexts.

Participants shared successful mentoring program practices already implemented in universities, particularly those aimed at developing leadership skills for early-career and mid-career female researchers. Discussions also focused on building support networks between experienced leaders and young female scholars. Another key aspect was the development of practical tools to overcome gender barriers in academia and establish sustainable support mechanisms for women in research.

The discussions combined an academic approach with practical experiences from NGO representatives, helping to identify effective strategies for promoting women’s leadership in modern education. Attendees also explored successful cases of similar initiatives in British universities, including insights from the “Fostering Women’s Leadership in Ukrainian Academia Project” at the University of Hull.

The participation of our university in such international initiatives strengthens partnerships and contributes to the implementation of best practices in gender equality and leadership.
