Discussion of Educational and Professional Programs

A discussion of EPP projects took place at an extended meeting of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology.
On March 19, 2025, an extended meeting of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology was held to discuss the educational and professional program projects for the second (master’s) level of higher education A4 «Secondary Education. English Language and Foreign Literature» and the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education A4 «Secondary Education. Language and Literature (Spanish, English)».
Specialists from other departments of the Institute of Philology and Journalism (Departments of Literary Studies, Oriental Philology and Translation, and Foreign Languages for Professional Purposes), working groups of the educational programs, reviewers, and external stakeholders gathered to improve the quality of training for philology master’s and bachelor’s students. Among the reviewers of the «Secondary Education» programs were: Svitlana Sytnyakivska, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages of Polissia National University; Yelyzaveta Isakova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Philology and Translation at Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design; Oleksandr Naboka, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of History and Archaeology at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University (Class of 2023); Serhii Sevruk, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Chairman of the Public Council under the Regional State Administration of Luhansk Region, Head of the Luhansk Regional Organization of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine; Vsevolod Danylchuk, Class of 2024 graduate, English teacher at the Municipal Institution of General Secondary Education «Lyceum No. 13 of the Khmelnytskyi City Council»; Svitlana Zlobynets, Higher Category English Teacher at Novosanzhary Lyceum of the Novosanzhary District Council of Poltava Region; Ihor Protsenko, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Philology, Head of the Certification Program “Spanish Studies and Translation” at Mariupol State University; Inna Navarenko, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Spanish and Modern Greek Philology at Kyiv National Linguistic University; Liudmyla Kuzhyk, Spanish language teacher at the Private Institution of General Secondary Education “IT Step School” in Poltava, Poltava Region, and others.
External stakeholders present at the meeting included: Iryna Akinshyna, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Department of Information Use, Documents, and External Relations of the Sectoral State Archive of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory; Nadiia Koval, Deputy Director for Educational Work, Higher Category Teacher, Teacher-Methodologist; Iryna Shiyan, Head of the «European Choice» Translation Bureau, and others. Graduates of these specialties, master’s students, and current students of the presented educational programs also joined the discussion, including: Kostiantyn Valente, first-year master’s student of the A4 «Secondary Education. Language and Literature (English)» program; Daria Fyl, third-year student of the «Secondary Education. Spanish Language and Literature. Language and Literature (Spanish, English)» program; Alisa Humenko, fourth-year student of the «Secondary Education. Spanish Language and Literature. Language and Literature (Spanish, English)» program; Maria Edelberg, fourth-year student of the «Secondary Education. Spanish Language and Literature. Language and Literature (Spanish, English)» program.
The program guarantors presented the educational program projects for the 2025 admissions cycle, highlighted the anticipated changes in educational components, and emphasized pressing issues requiring discussion. Reviewers, higher education students, and stakeholders shared their suggestions for improving the educational components of the programs. During the public meeting, discussions actively addressed the content and sequence of mandatory educational components, ensuring that the needs and interests of all participants in the educational process were taken into account. Special attention was given to the discussion of elective educational components, providing students with greater opportunities for self-development and the choice of study directions that align with their individual requests.
Third-year student of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology and Journalism of the «Language and Literature (Spanish, English)» program, Daria Fyl, shared her experience of participating in the Erasmus+ youth exchange. The Erasmus+ youth exchange took place from February 20 to 27 in Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia. The project focused on mental health and art therapy. Participants engaged in non-formal education methods and frequently created theatrical performances. During her time in Slovakia, Daria had the opportunity to improve her English proficiency and interact with participants from Spain, Slovakia, Georgia, and Latvia. She expressed gratitude to the guarantor of the «Language and Literature (Spanish, English)» program for the high-quality training in English and Spanish.
The extended meeting of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology was marked by in-depth discussions and valuable proposals that could significantly enhance the educational and professional programs of the institute’s specialties. All ideas presented were taken into account and will be considered by the project teams in updating the educational programs. The next steps for guarantors and working (project) groups involve implementing the proposed changes and evaluating them in the context of training highly qualified specialists.
