“Life Delayed Syndrome: How to Rediscover Meaning”
17.3.2025
On March 17, as part of the All-Ukrainian mental health program initiated by Olena Zelenska “How are you?”, a discussion “Delayed Life Syndrome: How to Rediscover Meaning” was held at Brianka Professional College.
The goal of the event was to help students realize the importance of life “here and now”, as well as learn to find joy in everyday life.
During the event, a social educator spoke about the concept of “postponed life syndrome” – a phenomenon when a person constantly postpones happiness, achieving goals or realizing dreams for later, waiting for a “better moment”. She emphasized that this can lead to a loss of motivation, emotional burnout and a sense of meaninglessness.
Students took part in group exercises aimed at self-knowledge and determining core values. They made a list of things that bring them joy and analyzed why these things are often postponed for later.
Practical recommendations were also provided on how to overcome procrastination and start living a full life. Among them:
– Break big goals into small steps.
– Celebrate your achievements, even the smallest ones.
– Practice gratitude for what you already have.
– Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because they are part of growth.
At the end of the event, students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their thoughts on the topic. Participants shared their fears and doubts, receiving support from those present. Many admitted that for the first time they thought about how often they postpone their dreams due to fear or uncertainty.
The conversation became an important step in the development of the students’ personality, helped them realize the value of every moment of life and inspired them to new achievements.
