“History of Monetary Circulation of Ukraine: The Women’s World of Coins”

Lecturers of the Department of Finance, Accounting and Banking visited the virtual tour of the Museum of Money of the NBU “History of Monetary Circulation of Ukraine: The Women’s World of Coins”.

During the excursion, the participants learned from Andrii Boiko-Gagarin, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Senior Curator of the Funds of the Museum of Money of Ukraine, about the feminine world of coins, because the term “coin” itself comes from the name of the Roman goddess Juno Moneta, in whose temple the first mint of Ancient Rome was established. Female portraits and images have long adorned coins. Therefore, the mothers and wives of Roman emperors, as well as princesses and queens, were depicted on coins. The listeners also learned about the fashion trends of women’s hairstyles and clothing that were minted on coins and why Ukrainian women preserved the tradition of wearing jewelry made of coins (dukachi).

The knowledge gained will become the basis for scientific articles and joint projects with historians, cultural scientists and financiers. Such initiatives are investments in the future of education, and each new fact about the past makes our present conscious!

Such events are extremely useful for both scientists and students, as they allow them to integrate historical aspects of the development of monetary affairs into the modern educational process of training financiers and make it even more meaningful and exciting.
