With Shevchenko in Our Hearts

The Shevchenko week at the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism was full of various events.

It was not without gifts. A handmade gift is always the most valuable. We received just such a gift from Ivanna Mikhno, a first-level (bachelor’s) student studying two educational programmes (014.021 Secondary Education. English Language and Foreign Literature and 014 Secondary Education. Fine Arts). She presented a hand-embroidered beaded painting depicting Taras Shevchenko against the background of his own watercolour «Vozdvyzhenskyi Monastery in Poltava».

Taras Shevchenko created the watercolour painting of the Monastery of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Poltava in 1845 during a trip to Poltava. On the instructions of the Archaeological Commission, in July 1845, Shevchenko visited Poltava, where he got acquainted with numerous historical sites and architectural monuments of the city and sketched some of them.

We are grateful to Ivana for her attention and respect for Shevchenko’s traditions, love of art, and generosity. The painting will occupy a prominent place and become an adornment of the Shevchenko corner.

We wish Ivana inspiration and fulfilment of all her plans.
