Guest Lecture at the Department of Literary Studies, Oriental Philology and Translation

Teachers and students of the Department of Literary Studies, Oriental Philology and Translation attended a guest lecture on topical issues of training and professional activity of a translator in modern conditions.

On 6 March 2025, the Department of Literary Studies, Oriental Philology and Translation of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism hosted a guest lecture on «The Language Services Industry: Key Skills for Success» by Oleksandr Bondarenko, Director of Translatel, member of the LIND Expert Group of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation, Associate Professor at Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State University.

During the lecture, Mr. Oleksandr shared with the participants information on current trends in the translation and localisation market, outlined the key skills required for a successful career in the field of language services, and spoke about the challenges faced by modern translators. Particular attention was paid to professional certification, automation of translation processes and the requirements of the international market.

Students and teachers actively participated in the discussion, asking questions about the specifics of using AI in translation and career opportunities in the industry. The lecture was a great opportunity for future translation professionals to learn about the realities of the professional environment and get valuable advice from an expert.
