Ukrainian History from February 2014
26.2.2025
The long-lasting month of February, this is exactly how we can talk about the events of Ukrainian history from February 2014 to February 2025.
A month that has already “continued” for eleven years – years of war, trials, tragedies and great sorrow for our long-suffering Ukrainian people. Tens of thousands of the best sons and daughters who gave their lives for tomorrow, for the right to live in a state with pro-European values, went to Calvary and beyond to the heavenly host.
In February 2014, the government of Viktor Yanukovych began to use executions against participants in the Revolution of Dignity. The events of “Bloody Thursday”, the annexation of Crimea, hostilities against militants of the self-proclaimed republics of ORDLO, the large-scale Russian military invasion on February 24, 2022 under the name of “special military operation”, a thousand days, and it has been three full years since the undeclared war. But the measurement of three years is insufficient and relative. Not three, but a full eleven. And this was at a time when the First World War lasted four years and three and a half months, and the Second – six years.
All this is a truth that does not need to be proven. Eleven years of struggle and suffering. This is the conclusion of the thematic hour “Children of Ukraine and War”, which was held on February 24, 2025 at the Professional College and Starobilsk Professional College of LTSNU by the history teacher O.M. Karpenko.
Students and teachers had the opportunity to turn over the pages of events eleven years long, express their opinion on these events, and communicate with invited distinguished guests who, from the first days of the war, stood up for the defense of their native land.
Soldiers with the call signs “Fritz” and “Kuma” shared with students their own memories of the events of the last three years in their lives, gave examples of participation in military operations, and told the truth about what they experienced and saw. War is always cruelty, but along with this it has several “subtexts”. And only those who have seen their comrades die will understand them.
The guests’ stories made it possible to understand that the war changed each of us, it hit each of us with its own cruelty, trials, difficulties and disagreements. This is confirmed by the fact that the meeting was not held in a student auditorium, but in a bunker. After all, the Russian Federation “congratulated” Ukrainians on the three anniversaries of its own large-scale invasion.
With a minute of silence, the participants of the meeting honored the memory of those who passed away while defending their native land. A sincere Ukrainian “THANK YOU” was said to those who defend their native land and provide teachers and students with the opportunity to work and study.
The participants of the meeting joined in raising funds for the needs of the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The funds raised for the purchase of the necessary turnstiles were transferred to volunteers.
