Meeting of Guarantors and Representatives of Student Self-Government
13.2.2025
A meeting of guarantors and representatives of the student self-government was held at the Department of History and Archaeology.
An important meeting was held between representatives of the student self-government of the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences with the guarantors of educational programs in the specialties “Secondary Education (History and Civic Education)” and “History and Archaeology” of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education. The meeting aimed to have an open dialogue on the quality of educational programs, analyze their effectiveness, and discuss possible ways to improve them in accordance with the requests of students.
During the meeting, the President of the Student Self-Government of the ER ISHS, Viktoriia Makarenko, noted that among the main wishes of students, the issue of developing soft skills, which are of great importance for future professional activities, is particularly relevant. Special emphasis is placed on improving communication skills, critical thinking and organizational abilities. In addition, students emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for studying English, since a significant amount of the latest research in the field of history and pedagogy is presented in English. Students expressed a desire to use a larger number of relevant scientific materials.
A separate important aspect raised during the meeting was the issue of the need to create a platform for discussing read scientific works and reviewed materials on history. In conditions of distance learning, students often experience a lack of academic communication, which negatively affects the formation of a holistic worldview and exchange of ideas. It was suggested to consider the possibility of organizing extracurricular activities, such as historical discussion clubs or thematic meetings, where students and teachers could discuss important historical issues and modern scientific trends.
The head of the student council of the dormitory, Valeria Ilnytska, emphasized that the university actively supports non-formal and informal education, but due to the large amount of available information, it can be difficult for students to navigate in choosing truly valuable educational resources. Teachers were asked to help students navigate this flow of information by recommending high-quality courses, videos, scientific articles and other educational resources that will meet high academic standards and contribute to the professional growth of students.
The guarantors of educational programs thanked the student government for its active position and constructive approach to discussing problems and opportunities for improving the educational process. They agreed with the importance of the proposed initiatives and promised to consider the possibility of their implementation. In addition, representatives of the department appealed to the student government with a request to facilitate the dissemination of information about the algorithms of actions in cases of detection of corrupt actions, manifestations of violence, conflict situations or other violations of the rights of applicants. It was emphasized that the department is always open to cooperation, ready to provide the necessary support and assistance to every student, regardless of the circumstances.
The Department of History and Archaeology invited students to actively participate in the public discussion of educational programs, since their contribution is important for improving the quality of education and creating a comfortable educational environment. The meeting was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere, which contributed to a productive discussion and establishing an effective dialogue between students and teachers. In the future, the department plans to continue cooperation with the student government, support student initiatives and work together to improve educational programs, taking into account modern challenges and requirements for training specialists.
