Event of the Journalism Department Dedicated to the Day of Unity and Freedom of Ukraine

The Journalism Department held a solemn event on the occasion of the Day of Unity and Freedom of Ukraine.

On January 22, 2025, the Department of Journalism of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology and Journalism held a solemn event on the occasion of the Day of Unity and Freedom of Ukraine. The event was attended by teachers and higher education students of the entire structural unit, who together celebrated this important date in the history of our state.

The purpose of the event was:

– to familiarize higher education students and teachers with key events that contributed to the unification of Ukrainian lands and the formation of national identity;

– to foster love for the Motherland, pride in its cultural heritage and responsibility for preserving the unity and freedom of Ukraine;

– to stimulate higher education students to create journalistic materials (articles, reports, interviews) and other creative initiatives dedicated to the theme of the unity and freedom of Ukraine;

– creating an atmosphere of unity among higher education students and teachers through joint participation in discussions, speeches and interactive events.

Artem Halych, head of the Department of Journalism, delivered a welcoming speech, who noted: «Today we have gathered to celebrate a significant date in the history of our state – the Day of Unity and Freedom of Ukraine. This is not only a holiday of the unification of the lands, which took place on January 22, 1919, but also a reminder of how important it is to be united in the pursuit of freedom, justice and a decent life. Ukraine’s past is full of struggle, challenges and losses, but this day is proof that, despite all the difficulties, Ukrainians are able to unite for a common goal – a strong, independent state.

Unity is, first of all, spiritual unity, embodied in our love for our native land, in respecting our culture, language and traditions. Today, in the conditions of a full-scale war that our state is experiencing, the sobornost has a special meaning for us. It requires each of us to be united, steadfast, and believe in our victory.

Today is a time to reflect on our history, but also a moment of pride in the fact that we are Ukrainians. May the example of sobornost inspire us to work together, to create a future in which the freedom and dignity of every citizen will be inviolable.

May each of your days be filled with new achievements, sincere emotions, and faith in a better future. Remember that together we are able to overcome any difficulties and preserve our freedom and independence».

The moderator was Valeria Zygulya, a first-year (bachelor’s) higher education student, a 2nd-year student of the specialty 061 “Journalism”, who took the initiative to talk about this holiday by preparing an interesting and meaningful presentation.

The Department of Journalism thanks all participants for their active participation and sincere interest in preserving and enhancing the traditions of our state. Such events are an important component of the formation of a conscious generation of citizens who are able to appreciate the historical heritage and work for the future of Ukraine.
