Open Lecture by a Professor from Sorbonne University

Teachers and students of the Social Pedagogy Department participated in an open lecture by a professor from Sorbonne University.

On January 16, 2025, teachers of the Department of Social Pedagogy and students of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education in specialty 231 “Social Work” under the educational program “Social Work. Social Pedagogy. Practical Psychology” of full-time and part-time forms of study, as well as students of the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education in specialty 231 “Social Work” took part in an open lecture by Professor of Sorbonne University Luba JURGENSON.

The lecture on the topic “Traces of Mass Violence in the Landscape of Central and Eastern Europe” was held in a remote format using the MSTeams platform.

Since representatives of higher education institutions not only from Ukraine but also from Poland participated in the event, the main working language of the lecture was English. But this did not prevent our teachers and applicants from taking part in a lively discussion after the lecture. In particular, Associate Professor of the Department of Social Pedagogy Natalia Otroshchenko made a comment in which she thanked the lecturer for her research and also noted that she is 100% sure that Ms. Jurgenson’s theoretical research has enormous practical significance, because the long-term violence against nature, as against a living organism, described by her in a historical context, is what Russia is embodying right now. This is confirmed by the 80% destruction of natural resources in the East and Center of Ukraine.

The Social Pedagogy Department expresses its gratitude to Luba JURGENSON for the relevant, professional and interactive presentation of the material.

We would like to express our special gratitude to the organizers of the event, Dr. Magdalena LACHOWYCH and Professor, Dr. habil. Maciej MICHALSKI (Faculty of History, Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU)) for the opportunity to join the discussion of a topic that is not only scientifically significant, but also directly related to modern challenges in the context of environmental and social security. We hope for further cooperation and new meetings.
