Meeting of the Youth Club of Eastern Cultures: Asian Cinema Day

On December 25, as part of the Youth Club of Eastern Cultures at the Department of Literary Studies, Eastern Philology, and Translation, an event dedicated to Asian cinema was held.
The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, where students and faculty had the opportunity to explore various aspects of Eastern cinematic traditions.
First-year student Zlata Ostapenko spoke about Turkish cinema and the film «My Father and My Son», which addresses themes of family relationships and social change. Second-year student Ivan Zodorozhniy presented the iconic Chinese film «Hero» by director Zhang Yimou, uncovering its artistic features and cultural context.
Associate Professor Dar’ya Perepadya shared her memories of Jet Li’s work, immersing everyone in nostalgia for his films, which left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of viewers. Her talk highlighted the actor’s importance in the development of Chinese cinema.
Second-year student Sofiya Nedohybchenko introduced the audience to popular Korean dramas, particularly the series «Empress Ki». Associate Professor Yuliya Malakhova revealed the distinctive features of Japanese anime, emphasizing the genre’s significance in global culture. She explained in detail how anime reflects Japanese traditions, philosophy, and social phenomena, and also drew attention to key stages in the development of animation cinema in Japan. As an example, Yuliya Volodymyrivna presented the anime «Suzume», which, according to her, is an excellent example of the quality and emotional depth of modern Japanese anime.
Lecturer Maryna Bielik shared her impressions of Thai cinema, particularly the series «Girl from Nowhere».
The meeting provided a wonderful opportunity to exchange impressions of Asian cinema and discuss the diversity of cultural traditions in Eastern cinematography.
