Guest Scientific and Practical Seminar For the Applicants of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department.

As part of the international cooperation of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology (ERIP&J) with the Department of English Language and American Studies (Faculty of Art, Matej Bel University, Banska Bystrica) and to implement the key competencies of the EPP implemented at the department, on 05 December 2024, for applicants for the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education, prof. Jana Javorčíková and Prof. Petra Jesenská held an extraordinarily inspiring and valuable scientific and practical seminar on foreign language teaching methods.

The primary purpose of the English-language workshop was to familiarise the students with current trends and innovative methods in foreign language teaching. The seminar aimed to improve professional competence and expert experiences and integrate the latest educational technologies into learning.

Guest speakers presented reports on relevant topics such as ‘Intercultural Approach in Foreign Language Teaching,’ ‘Developing Communicative Competence through Project Activities,’ and ‘Integrating Digital Technologies into the Foreign Language Teaching Process.’

During the practical part of the seminar, the participants took part in workshops:

1) Using interactive teaching platforms (Zoom, Padlet, Kahoot).

2) Developing and implementing integrated lessons using modern methods (Task-Based Learning, CLIL).

3) Practical lesson on developing listening and speaking skills through authentic materials.

In conclusion, the participants shared their impressions of the event, noting its practical value.

The scientific and practical seminar confirmed the importance of involving guest lecturers in the educational process. The Department of Romance and Germanic Philology plans to hold similar events at least once a semester, focusing on specific requests from students and teachers.
