Participation in the Round Table to discuss the problems of Ukrainian transcription of the Japanese language

The Guarantor of the Japanese Studies Department participated in the Round Table to discuss the problems of Ukrainian transcription of the Japanese language.

December 10, 2024, guarantor of the educational program «Philology. Oriental languages and literatures (including translation), the first – Japanese. Language and Literature (Japanese, English)» Associate Professor of the Department of Literary Studies, Oriental Philology and Translation Yulia Malakhova took part in the scientific discussion. The researchers discussed the problems of academic Ukrainian transcription of the Japanese language. The scientific discussion was held at the Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University.

At the meeting, a discussion arose about the unification of existing transcriptions of the Japanese language. The main requirement is that such transcription should correspond to the phonetic system of the Japanese language. It is also important to take into account the norms of modern Ukrainian spelling.

The participants of the scientific discussion highly appreciated the report of Associate Professor of the Department of Literary Studies, Oriental Philology and Translation of Ukraine Yulia Malakhova and supported her proposals for the unification of requirements for Ukrainian transcription of the Japanese language.
