International Volunteer Day at the Educational and Research Institute of Philology & Journalism
9.12.2024
On December 5, 2024, students and teachers of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology of the ER IPhR joined the celebration of International Volunteer Day.
Associate Professor L.V. Shapovalova organized and conducted the event. During the event, the participants learned what volunteering means and what laws regulate it, and the main areas of volunteer work were outlined. The audience was informed about the history of volunteering and the milestones of its development in the world and in Ukraine. Liudmyla Vsevolodivna spoke about the state of volunteering in Europe, Asia, and the USA and outlined the main trends in its development in the early 21st century.
The report paid special attention to volunteer organizations and charitable foundations operating in Ukraine and abroad that are focusing their efforts on supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Student volunteers from the French city of Lyon were invited to the event. As of today, a 4th-year student of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department, Victoria Skachkova, is currently in France on a volunteer mission. An important aspect of her volunteering was communication with teenagers, which gave her additional practice in the field of education. ‘This project was my best decision. I realized that I love the French language and working with teenagers, despite all the difficulties,’ she says.
Viktoriia emphasizes that this experience has given her new impetus to continue her studies in her field of study, and she is looking forward to new opportunities in education.
The event’s moderator explained how to become a volunteer and what to consider when choosing this activity.
The event showed how many people are ready to help in difficult situations, such as war and crisis.
