Black Harvest: The Truth About the Holodomor

“Black Harvest: The Truth About the Holodomor” was the title of an hour of mourning for students of the structural divisions of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, the city of Myrhorod.

The bibliographer Yulia Denysenko gave a speech to the students. She told the students about the largest famine of 1932-1933. Then, according to official data, the terror of the totalitarian regime claimed from 4 to 10 million Ukrainian lives. During the event, fragments of documentary chronicles about the Holodomor were shown, during which the causes, intentions, and consequences of the genocidal policy of the USSR leadership were revealed.

A minute of silence was held to the song “Candle” to honor the memory of millions of innocent lives lost.

Those present were learned about the definitions of the concepts of “Genocide” and “Holodomor”. Parallels were drawn with the Holodomor – the genocide of 1932-1933 and the present, because the Day of Remembrance of the Holodomor Victims takes place during the Russian-Ukrainian war. Decades later, Russia is repeating terrible crimes against Ukrainians, destroying civilian infrastructure, schools, hospitals, residential buildings, killing and torturing civilians. Russia’s goal has always been and is the destruction of Ukrainian identity and the national idea.

Therefore, the Victory of Ukraine and the punishment of the guilty are important not only for our country, they are important for the whole world.

Years will pass, decades will pass, and the tragedy of 1933 will still stir the hearts of people. Both those whom it touched with its black wing, and those who were born after those terrible years. It will always unite all living people with one memory, one sadness, one hope.
