Creating Сompetency-Based Tasks for English Language Lessons: A Webinar for the Romance and Germanic Philology Department.
On November 20th, the Romance & Germanic Philology Department (Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism) participated in a webinar hosted by Ranok Publishing on integrating competency-based learning into English language classes.
Galina Kuznetsova, an English language methodologist at Ranok Publishing, led the workshop. Department members honed their skills in creating engaging and effective tasks that develop vital student competencies. Practical methods for designing interactive exercises promoting critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills were explored.
Faculty and students received valuable tips and ready-to-use tools for implementing a competency-based approach in foreign language classes. Key topics included:
- Developing tasks that foster essential life skills in grades 9-11.
- Practical advice for incorporating these tasks into English lessons.
- Effective methods for assessing the results of competency-based tasks.
All registered participants who completed the post-webinar quiz received certificates. The Romance & Germanic Philology Department’s participation in the Ranok Publishing webinar was a significant step towards improving the educational process and enhancing the effectiveness of foreign language learning.
