Ukrainian Study Visit to the School of Education
25.11.2024
Will the School of Education become a source of inspiration for pedagogical institutions in Ukraine?
There are many reasons to think so. And all this thanks to the study visit of representatives of Ukrainian higher education institutions.
The delegation of 15 people includes scientists and people involved in education from research centers relocated from the war zones, for example, from Luhansk, Donetsk and Berdiansk. One of the initiators of this event was Liliia Hrynevych – Minister of Education and Science in 2016-2019, teacher, educator, one of the initiators of the education reform in Ukraine, a graduate of the Kirkland Program, created by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. The visit was organized by Study Tours to Poland with funding from PAFF.
Over the course of five days, participants had the opportunity to observe how the School of Education is organized and what our classes look like. Participants also studied the principles of the integration seminar at subject seminars. They visited our internships and the Ukrainian school in Warsaw and listened to a presentation of the results of a study of Ukrainian students in the Polish education system.
Each day of the study visit participants concluded with a so-called reflective journal, i.e. reflection and recording of their own experiences and observations. This is a method that we also use in our work with our students. It is designed to form a reflective and conscious approach to their own development.
The Educational School Supports Ukraine from the Beginning.
The academic visit is one of many initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation and supporting the Ukrainian education system – especially after Russia’s barbaric attack on our neighbor. Less than 2 months after the start of the war, we organized the conference “Ukrainian Teacher in Poland”, which became an opportunity for integration, as well as for improving pedagogical skills. The School of Education teachers also developed a set of teacher guides that describe the differences between the Polish and Ukrainian core curricula and suggest tasks and activities that will help integrate refugee children. The guides have proven to be extremely popular: tens of thousands of teachers have used them.
