Guest Lecture

A guest lecture was held at the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences.

On November 7, a guest lecture “Features of collecting information about the facts of the socio-economic life of society in wartime” was held by Hanna Padalka, Ph.D., head of the social research department of the Research Holding “4Service”.

The lecture brought together students from the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences majoring in “History”, “Sociology” and “Political Science”, because it concerned the features of recording the facts of the social life of modern Ukrainian society. However, the lecture was specially organized for teachers and students majoring in “Sociology”.

Hanna Padalka, as a representative of 4Service, an international research holding with headquarters in Vienna (Austria), which operates in 52 countries, introduced future sociologists to modern research practices and the peculiarities of the work of the Ukrainian office.

The lecturer systematized the features of conducting social research during the war, paying attention to both methodological (the problem of the statistical basis for the sample, taking into account IDPs, determining the principles of sample formation) and organizational aspects (the problem of work deadlines, supporting documents, interaction with communities and the police).

For the teachers of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology, the value of the meeting was in communicating with a representative of a potential employer, obtaining up-to-date information about the state of the market. The fact that, according to Hanna, one of the challenges of the agency’s work is the shortage of motivated personnel, the need to additionally form skills in working with respondents in a difficult emotional state during trainings is important information for updating the educational programs of the specialty.

Hanna Padalka’s lecture became the basis for building discussions and topics for reports at practical classes on the OC “Professional Ethics of a Sociologist” (discussion of the ethical obligation of a sociologist when working in extreme conditions, in communities located in territories close to the zone of active hostilities, interaction with communities and military-civilian administrations) and the OC “Latest Methods and Technologies of Sociological Research” (modern agencies, practices and types of sociological research). The lecture became a source of updating the content of the OC “Methodology and Methods of Sociological Research” regarding the principles of sample formation in extreme conditions.
