Oscar Wilde Memorial Contest

The Department of Romance and Germanic Philology of the ER IPJ held a Oscar Wilde Memorial Contest, which united young linguists from Luhansk and Poltava regions.

The 170th anniversary of the birth of the distinguished Irish-English poet, playwright, and prose writer Oscar Wilde served as the impetus for a large-scale competition among students of schools in the Luhansk and Poltava regions for the best English-language multimedia presentation. The initiative was launched by the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology and Journalism.

Students from Lysychansk Lyceum No. 17, Gymnasium No. 15 in Sivierskodonetsk, Kreminna Lyceum No. 5, Lyceum No. 13 “Uspikh” in Poltava, Starosanzharska Gymnasium named after Oksana Meshko, and other educational institutions of Luhansk and Poltava regions participated in the contest. The contestants presented interesting presentations dedicated to Wilde’s work, life, and influence on world literature.

The jury, which included Associate Professors of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology, Candidates of Sciences N. Khairulina, O. Yunina, and L. Tyshakova, noted the high level of preparation of the participants. The winners of the contest were Inna Rusetska (1st place), Anastasia Valyn (2nd place), and Maria Lysenko (3rd place). All participants demonstrated a high level of preparation and creativity. The participants received certificates, and the teachers – letters of thanks for preparing talented youth. The winners were awarded diplomas and valuable prizes.

This contest became vivid evidence that young people are interested in world literature and are able to represent their knowledge and skills well.

The event contributed to the development of students’ creative abilities, deepened their knowledge of the English language and literature, and strengthened cultural ties between educational institutions.
