Student’s Day at the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism
18.11.2024
On 17 November, the world celebrates International Students’ Day – a holiday of youth, creativity, and the struggle for freedom.
The traditions associated with the ‘professional holiday’ of students are strikingly diverse. In Portugal, first-year students are initiated into the student community and have to put a binder on their heads, kneel down and sing the anthem of the university where they study. At Harvard University, they hold theatrical celebrations in honour of pudding, which has been brought to student club meetings since 1795. In Poland, students participate in costume parades and carnivals, and the holiday is called Juvenilia. Students around the world are united on this day by a festive mood, sports competitions, contests, etc.
On 15 November, students and teachers of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism gathered at the Student Union.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the Institute Viktoria Dmytrenko congratulated the students and held a symbolic initiation into freshmen with the help of riddles, checking their readiness to solve complex problems during their studies at the university. The participants had an interesting time learning about the traditions of celebrating Student’s Day in the world and in Ukraine, and the game ‘Two Facts and One Lie’ revealed the secrets of the audience. The presentation of photos of the teachers‘ student years (’Student, do I know you?”) was a surprise for the students. In a relaxed atmosphere of competition, intellectual games such as ‘Unravel the Idiom’ and ‘Draw a Song’ were held. The highlight of the event was the Hungry Student competition, where students had to cook festive dishes using a limited amount of food. Fortune was on the side of the students this time: they won a convincing victory. But it could not be otherwise on such a day!
The teachers of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism congratulate the students on the International Students’ Day! They wish them to move forward steadily, be confident in their abilities, have fateful meetings and happy moments throughout their lives!
