Lecture on Academic Integrity

On October 29, a lecture on academic integrity was held for students at the Department of Professional Education, Restaurant and Tourism Business. 

The class was attended by more than forty bachelor’s and master’s degree students. The leading librarian of LTSNU, head of the School of Academic Integrity, Oksana Shevchyk, introduced the leading provisions of academic integrity to higher education students.

She described the definition of “academic integrity”, considered its main principles and values, and discussed with higher education students the importance of observing academic integrity in the educational process. The lecture also considered types of violations of academic integrity, the causes of this phenomenon, and strategies for avoiding them. Ms. Oksana spoke about academic plagiarism, described types of plagiarism, and provided higher education students with recommendations on how to avoid plagiarism in practice.
Special attention was paid to the rules of citation, the design of sources in the final list of literature, the design of the results of one’s own research and the rules for compiling bibliographic entries. Ms. Oksana paid special attention to copyright and issues of copyright infringement.

The staff of the Department is grateful to Ms. Oksana for an interesting lecture. We hope that higher education students of the PORTB department will definitely adhere to the rules of academic integrity in their scientific works.
