English-Language Literary Evening: “Oscar Wilde – a Writer of Great Art”

The literary evening dedicated to the work of the outstanding Irish writer Oscar Wilde became a bright event in the cultural life of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department students on 18.10.2024.
The event brought together fans of fine literature and provided an opportunity to learn more about the work of Oscar Wilde and his influence on world literature.
The event’s main goal was to popularise Oscar Wilde’s work among students, promote the development of readers’ interest in classical literature, and create a platform for discussing topical issues in the writer’s works.
The literary evening began with a short introduction about the life and work of Oscar Wilde. The main stages of his biography, the peculiarities of his creative path, and his influence on contemporary culture were presented.
Afterward, the participants of the event had the opportunity to read excerpts from the writer’s most famous works: the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, the plays Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Importance of Being Earnest, and others. The reading was accompanied by music, which created an atmosphere of sophistication and intellectual luxury.
The central part of the event was a discussion, during which the participants discussed the relevance of Wilde’s work in the modern world and his influence on the development of literature and art.
During the literary evening, he indicated that Oscar Wilde’s work remains relevant today. The event contributed to the popularisation of his works, the development of critical thinking, and the formation of aesthetic tastes among students in the 1st-4th years of study.
