Academic Integrity in the Educational Process
18.9.2024
On September 17, Oksana Shevchyk, the lead librarian of LTSNU, held a lecture “Academic Integrity in the Educational Process” for students at the ER IMIT.
Academic integrity is not just a set of rules, but a fundamental principle on which not only the educational process is based, but also the development of the scientific community and society as a whole.
The lecture was devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the actual problem of academic integrity in the modern educational environment. During the lecture, the principles of observing academic integrity among students, in particular, in the context of conducting scientific research, were discussed in detail. The main types of violations of academic integrity were analyzed and effective methods of their prevention were proposed. Special attention was paid to the formation of such key competencies as critical thinking, the ability to conduct independent scientific research, a responsible attitude to intellectual property, and the ability to correctly cite sources.
Students were particularly interested in issues related to plagiarism detection tools. The listeners actively participated in the discussion of the lecture and received comprehensive answers regarding the consequences of violating the rules of academic integrity and ways to prevent plagiarism when writing qualification papers, scientific articles, and theses of reports.
We thank Oksana Volodymyrivna for this interesting and meaningful lecture!
