Open Lecture Dedicated to the Borsch Day

An open lecture dedicated to the Borsch Day was held at the Department of Professional Education, Restaurant and Tourism Business.
On September 17, 2024, the Department of Professional Education, Restaurant and Tourism Business held an open lecture by Natalia Hirenko, assistant professor of the department, on the topic “Borsch – the National Achievement of Ukraine.” The lecture is timed to Borsch Day, which was celebrated in Ukraine this year on September 14. Many interested listeners gathered for the lecture.
During the lecture, the history of the origin of borsch, from ancient times to modern times, was covered in detail, as well as its unique significance in Ukrainian culture was considered. It is noted that in 2022, the culture of making Ukrainian borschtwas recognized as an object of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage.
Special attention was paid to the variety of borsch recipes in different regions of Ukraine, in particular Poltava region, where borsch has its own special version with dumplings. This dish is known for its richness and homely comfort, which symbolizes the hospitality of the Poltava region.
In addition, the participants of the event had a unique opportunity to share their family secrets of cooking borsch, which added a warm and homely touch to the atmosphere of the meeting.
Concluding the lecture, Nataliia Ihorivna expressed hope that next year this event will be held in peaceful time, within the walls of her native university. The lecture was filled with a patriotic spirit and a sense of unity of the Ukrainian people, who, despite all the difficulties, continue to preserve and pass on their cultural heritage, including national dishes such as borsch. The university team will always remain an integral part of this celebration.
The lecture aroused lively interest, and the warm atmosphere of the event became a wonderful reminder of the power of national culture and traditions.
