Twinning – Presentation of English4Ukraine – the Platform for Learning English

Director of the Institute of International Education of LTSNU Iryna V. MYHOVYCH took part in the presentation of English4Ukraine – the platform for learning English, created with the assistance of the British-Ukrainian Twinning initiative.
On July 26, on the basis of Mariupol State University, relocated to Kyiv, the premises of the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, a presentation of English4Ukraine – the platform for learning English – was held, created with the assistance of the British-Ukrainian Twinning initiative. The platform is the Ukrainian version of the British development Reallyenglish, through which the world has been learning the language of international communication for more than 20 years.
The event brought together more than 300 participants – representatives of education, business, government, including the Founder and Chairman of the Cormack Consultancy Group Charles CORMACK, Managing Director Reallyenglish.com Ltd Nigel KILLICK, Director of the Ukraine Twinning project Oleksandr SMYRNOV, Member of Parliament, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Education, Science and Innovation Serhiy BABAK, Plenipotentiary Advisor of the Head of State for the Fund of the President of Ukraine for the Support of Education, Science and Sports Olga BUDNYK, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mychailo WYNNYCKYJ, Head of Unit of Education and Science of Office of the President of Ukraine Svitlana KRETOVYCH, Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Farkhad FARKHADOV, Head of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Ivan VERVEIKO, Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Vadym FILASHKIN, Head of the Union of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine Petro KULIKOV, Advisor to the Directorate of the Institute of Higher Education of the NAES of Ukraine Svitlana KALASHNIKOVA.
During the event, the achievements of the Twinning initiative were presented, and the Chairman of the Cormack Consultancy Group, Charles CORMACK, emphasized the intellectual and material support that Great Britain provides to the academic communities of Ukraine during the war. To take advantage of these opportunities, including mobility, dual degree programs, training courses from world-class researchers, one need a sufficient level of English. Therefore, one of the tasks of the initiative is to help those who have such a request.
The English4Ukraine platform is a tool for improving language competencies. It contains 30 training courses for different levels of language proficiency, which cover general, business, academic, specialized (ESP) English, preparation for IELTS, TOEIC and TOEFL tests. Thanks to British donors, the platform will be available free of charge to everyone after the signing of the relevant memorandum with Mariupol State University. As of now, MSU plans to cooperate with universities participating in the Twinning initiative, as well as state institutions for which knowledge of a foreign language is mandatory in accordance with the adopted Law on the Use of the English Language in Ukraine.
Within the framework of the event, a Round Table “Implementation of the Law ‘On the Use of the English Language in Ukraine’ in the Context of Eurointegration” was also held, during which the specifics of studying English in Ukraine, its implementation in various spheres of life – education, law enforcement, assistance to the military and immigrants, were discussed. In particular, the internationalization of education was emphasized by Olga BUDNYK, Plenipotentiary Advisor of the Head of State for the Fund of the President of Ukraine for the Support of Education, Science and Sports, according to who “… the cooperation with foreign partners and the representation of Ukrainian universities in the world’s educational and scientific space is a civilizational choice of a country that seeks a better future”. LTSNU – through coverage of the activities of the Institute of International Education – presented its experience in the implementation of this law, including the work on the development of foreign language competence by various categories of citizens, including civil servants, displaced persons, representatives of the prosecutor’s office, etc.
