Books for the University Library
26.7.2024
The library of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was one of the largest libraries in Luhansk city.
For information only: by September 2014, the library fund included about 630,000 copies of books; more than 16 thousand readers used the library; annual number of book publishers – more than a million documents per year; subscription readers were served in the reading room, in addition, the library had an electronic reading room.
However, the library, together with the university, is experiencing a temporary occupation for the third time and, unfortunately, the main fund of the library has been lost to date. But work is underway to restore it. In this library, its friends and colleagues help, who send electronic versions of books, textbooks, and manuals. Other higher education institutions of Ukraine did not leave the library without support, which help with printed versions of textbooks, manuals, etc.
Recently, a wonderful event took place. A graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of our university, a scientist-entomologist, a talented photo artist, a volunteer-patriot, a participant of the 27th and 28th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition Serhii HLOTOV and his colleagues brought books on biology, ecology, zoology, geography, agronomy, magazines with scientific articles, foreign publications and many others on natural topics to the library archive of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
According to Serhii Hlotov, the history of these books began in the city of Starobilsk, when he was reorganizing his library and discovered that there were a lot of books, so it was decided to donate them to Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. He also noted that when he was a student at the university, he actively visited the university library and at that time took many books on entomology and natural sciences, which helped him a lot in his studies, so he understands when Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was once again moved due to the occupation of the Russian Federation, then the library suffered losses again.
Serhii Hlotov decided to share a part of his personal library, and this good cause was joined by his familiar authors, many fellow scientists, who also accumulated many books, collections of materials from scientific conferences, etc. over the years. Some of the books are signed by their authors. Many books were also transferred from the State Natural History Museum of the city of Lviv, where Serhii currently works. The library of the natural history museum actually handed over duplicate editions in several copies and books of its employees for students of LTSNU and all those interested in natural sciences.
