How to Write a Motivation Letter

A motivation letter will have different meaning for entrants to budget and contract forms of education.

For admission to the budget form of education, it will be used only for the rating of entrants with the same competitive score; for admission to the contract form of education, it can be the basis for the rating of entrants.

Motivational letters together with the application for admission are submitted in electronic form to the applicant’s electronic office.

In the case of submitting applications for several specialties, the entrant accordingly submits the same number of motivation letters for each specialty separately.

The applicant’s motivation letter is a document in which the applicant explains why he wants to get an education at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, why he is interested in the chosen specialty, and plans for the future career.

The goal is to tell about yourself, your strengths, to give a better idea of your own personality.

Volume 1.5 – 2 pages, Word document, 14 point, Times New Roman with 1 – 1.5 spacing. Align the text to the width of the page. The text should be divided into paragraphs (indent 1.25).

A small volume requires brevity: write about the most important things to show your interest and preparation.

To write a motivation letter, you need to answer the following questions:

  • Why did you choose this educational institution?
  • What interested you in the chosen specialty?
  • How can you demonstrate this interest?
  • What career prospects are you considering?
  • Have you had to overcome difficult situations and obstacles (financial, social, physical) to achieve your goals?
  • What qualities and skills do you possess?
  • What are your achievements and experience?
  • How do you manifest the strengths of your personality in life?

Stylistic requirements for a motivation letter:

  • Consistency and reasoning of the presentation is the main thing.
  • Allow no more than a paragraph for each topic.
  • Do not write in long sentences.
  • Extra emotions, imagery, lyrical digressions, and literary examples are unacceptable here.
  • Slang words are not allowed. They nullify the impression.
  • The worst mistake: to submit an essay about a specialty as a motivational letter.

Before sending a motivation letter, check:

Spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors: A letter composed with errors creates a negative impression of the skill and effort put into writing it.

Print out the letter and read it carefully several times, trying to detect whether any errors or mistakes have crept in. Have people whose opinion you trust read your letter, make sure that the text of the letter is understandable to the readers.

And most importantly, the letter must be 100% yours, not copied from the Internet (quotes are allowed).

Make your letter a vivid personal statement of your unique self to show who you are and why you want to be accepted.
