Foreign Cooperation at the Level of Student Unions

With the assistance of the international relations offices of LTSNU, Ukraine, and the University of Bath, UK, on June 26, 2024, a kick-off (constituent) meeting of the leadership of student unions of the two institutions was held.

The interaction of student unions of the two universities is one of the significant points of implementation of the strategic cooperation of our university with the University of Bath, Somerset, UK, the directions of which are outlined in the framework agreement on institutional cooperation signed in 2022 (https://luguniv.edu.ua/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/mizch_diial_2022_11_UoB-LTSNU_Twinning_MoU_signed_fr.pdf). Such a large-scale and multi-vector Ukrainian-British partnership with the participation of LTSNU is carried out within the framework of an international project “Twinning” with the assistance of Cormack Consultancy Group in partnership with the Association of UK Universities, which aims to support Ukrainian higher education institutions during and after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by establishing long-term strong partnerships with higher education institutions in the UK and other countries (coordinator – Iryna V. MYHOVYCH).

The meeting was attended by: Head of the International Relations Office, Director of the Institute of International Education Iryna MYHOVYCH, Ministry and Sponsor Liaison Manager of the University of Bath Ruth Roberts, Chairman of the Student Union of LTSNU Volodymyr MOROZ, leading representatives of the Student Union of the University Ganna BERENDIAEVA and Diana SAPA; from the Student Union of the University of Bath, the President Jimena Alamo and staff member Benjamin Orford Thompson were present.

During the meeting, each of the participating universities outlined the basic principles and structure of the activities of student unions, the forms of their interaction with all students and with individual categories of students (focus on inclusivity, gender balance, religious beliefs, etc.), with the administration of universities and with representatives of local communities. Issues of assisting students in studying, getting a temporary job in their free time, staying within the university campus, conducting volunteer activities, organizing leisure and sports activities were discussed.

At the end of the meeting, the participants outlined the prospects of cooperation for the second half of 2024, discussed the practical steps for its implementation in the form of skills-development-trainings, round tables, visits as free listeners by students of LTSNU to lectures of British lecturers and more.

We thank the representatives of the student unions of the institutions participating in the meeting for their sincere desire to cooperate for the versatile support of our university in times of struggle and defense of our institutional identity!
