Workshop of Mrs. Viktoria Bryndza
17.6.2024
On June 15, the guarantor of the “Sociology” educational program of the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education, Kateryna Kotelenets, attended the workshop of Mrs. Viktoria Bryndza.
The workshop is based on the online course of the Institute of Leadership and Management of the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Academy of Public Broadcasting “Critical Thinking in the Ukrainian Context”. Viktoria Brindza is a researcher, sociologist, worked for eight years with studies of values in the post-Soviet space, obtained a master’s degree in sociology and political science in Germany and a postgraduate certificate in educational science in Australia. Since 2011, he has been teaching the author’s course on critical thinking at the Ukrainian Catholic University.
During the event, Mrs. Viktoria noted: “The uniqueness of the course, which is adapted to the Ukrainian context. Critical thinking is usually contrasted with intuitive thinking, but in the face of the hybrid threat, this connection is no longer so clear-cut. Intuition helped and still helps Ukrainians to survive. At the same time, we have already understood that evidence is very important for interaction with the Western world, and not just emotions and impressions. In our course we learn to understand what influences thinking, how we form decisions and how to reconcile work with arguments and survival. I am glad that after a long time of work with the course and many tests, it is finally available to all who are interested.” The participants also practiced distinguishing between facts and judgments, types of errors, distortion of the context, etc.
Kateryna Kotelenets plans to use the acquired knowledge in teaching the “Sociology of Mass Media and the Internet” and the “Grant Writing and Project Management” courses.
