“Let’s Make This World Safe Together!”

On June 11, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University held an educational and theoretical lecture on public safety on the topic “Let’s Make This World Safe Together!” from the Association of Sappers of Ukraine.

The event was attended by the management of the university, directors of the institutes, employees and students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Ihor and Oksana Reznichenko gave a lecture as security instructors, certified trainers for preparedness and protection in the event of a conflict (SRR) on training on prevention of risks from explosive objects (EORE) of the NGO “Association of Sappers of Ukraine”.

After the brutal full-scale invasion, Ukraine is the country with the most Mine and Explosive Ordnance (MINE) contamination in the world. Due to this, the danger of injury and death of adults and children due to improper handling of ammunition and munitions remaining in the territories of hostilities, after numerous shelling of various regions of Ukraine, where occupied cities and villages are treated as terrible “gifts” from a cruel and insidious enemy, has increased sharply. Therefore holding such lectures is relevant and necessary. Their goal is to raise the level of awareness about the risks of mines and explosive objects and the formation of safe behavior skills.

Security experts explained to those present what mine safety is, how mines are marked and showed clearly in their video presentation what they look like, told about mine traps and how to avoid them, about the consequences of explosive objects and what they are, how to prevent these risks, which threats are posed by abandoned or found ammunition, cartridges, detonators, improvised explosive devices, etc. Emphasis was placed on behavior during air raids, shelter preparation, and indoor and outdoor actions during shelling or air raids. The listeners were told about dangerous areas and their signs, about designated mined places, destroyed buildings, unplowed fields, abandoned equipment, places of combat and how to protect yourself in such cases.

At the end of the lecture, the instructors distributed didactic materials on the theory of risk prevention to everyone and emphasized the three main safety rules:

  • Do not approach!
  • Do not touch!
  • Call 101!

All those present assured the security specialists that they understood what is strictly prohibited and what should be done in case of detection of explosive objects, after which they sincerely thanked them for the necessary and relevant knowledge they had received.

Safety is a priority for Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University!
