On May 24, the Department of Chemistry, Geography and Earth Sciences held a meeting of the scientific groups “Innovative Technologies for Teaching Geography” and “Scientific Achievements in Chemistry and Earth Sciences”.

The master’s student majoring in 014.07 “Secondary Education. Geography” Ms. Olha NIKITIUK presented a report on the topic “Examples of Practical Exercises and Tasks for the Formation of Creative Competence of Students in Geography Lessons”.

The speaker noted that the development of creativity in geography lessons contributes to a deeper understanding of the subject, the formation of various skills, the stimulation of independence and initiative and, as a result, the preparation of students to make responsible decisions in the future.

The speaker offered specific examples of creative tasks for students, namely:

• production of models of geographical objects – mountain systems, river valleys, ports, natural areas, etc. from various materials, such as: paper, cardboard, plasticine;
• tasks for the development of students’ creative thinking during the study of environmental problems of the World Ocean;
• creation of geographical comics;
• conducting business games.

At the end of the report, the meeting participants actively participated in the discussion and expressed a number of constructive proposals for the development of students’ creative competence in geography lessons, suggesting the use of such methodological techniques as: essay writing, STREAM projects that combine science, technology, reading, engineering, art and mathematics, Storytelling, etc.
