Participation of Teachers of the Romance & Germanic Philology Department in the Oxford ELTOC Conference
The academic staff of the Romance and Germanic Philology Department of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University took an active part in the three-day annual international online conference ELTOC-2024 (English Language Teaching Online Conference), which took place from 25 April to 27 April 2024. Researchers from the University of Oxford initiated the scientific event. For three working days, experienced teachers worldwide held nine webinars on various aspects of foreign language teaching.
The conference participants engaged in stimulating discussions on crucial elements of the English language teaching process. These included the development of modern communication skills, the role of technology and creativity in language learning, how conversational grammar can enhance communication and other pertinent issues. The webinar on providing students with exam preparation opportunities and the one on developing transition skills in higher education were particularly relevant and beneficial.
Another webinar focused on learning intercultural competence and citizenship through projects. The speakers shared practical tips on encouraging students to learn English, improving pronunciation skills in a global English classroom, speaking practice, reading, and writing.
The department’s teachers’ regular participation in these interactive webinars is a testament to our commitment to professional development and a valuable opportunity to learn and implement modern, innovative approaches to teaching foreign languages in higher education institutions. This active engagement helps our teachers improve their practical skills, benefiting our department and students.
