We Remember a Great Man

Today, we once again remember a great person, a teacher, a wise leader, a mentor, whose life’s work has not faded.

Hennadii Ivanovych Bozhko from 1990 to 2014 held the position of director of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”.

Possessing progressive thinking and a restless nature, during his 25 years of deanship and directorship, Hennadii Ivanovych, together with a team of like-minded people, transformed the faculty of training primary school teachers with 1 specialty into a powerful Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, which currently trains specialists in 7 specialties (“Primary Education”, ” Primary education, “Preschool Education”, “Social Work. Practical Psychology”, “Pedagogy of Higher Education”). Such a rapid development of the Institute became possible thanks to the wise leadership of Hennadii Ivanovych Bozhko. In addition, he was the organizer of the first University Educational District in the East of Ukraine, which included a university, schools and educational institutions of various accreditation levels. On his initiative, the Chronicle of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology was published, which was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the university.

In the most difficult time for the university, during the military aggression in the East of Ukraine, together with the university staff, the Institute was evacuated to the city of Starobilsk. In 2015, when the Director was convinced that the Institute had confidently “stood on its feet” in the conditions of displacement, he handed over the leadership to Olena Karaman, a graduate of the Institute, who is currently the Rector of the University.

Hennadii Ivanovych was a true patriot of the University, its soul, pride, and face; bright Individuality, Professionalism, Personality, a reliable Comrade, a kind Person with an open soul, a smile, subtle humor, and an individual style in everything!

After the work, he cheered every day for the fate of the University and the Institute; gave advice, was a real and reliable connecting link between different generations of teachers and students – past, present and future!

Hennadii Ivanovych devoted his whole life to his native Alma Mater, and therefore entered the glorious history of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University with golden letters.
