Discussion of Educational Programs at the Oriental Philology and Translation Studies Department
On April 2, 2024, a meeting was held at the Oriental Philology and Translation Studies Department to discuss the projects of educational programs for 2024. During the session, issues regarding changes to the educational programs implemented at the department were discussed. The program coordinators, S.V. Perova (“Translation (English and a second foreign language (Chinese))”), D.O. Perepadya (“Language and Literature (Chinese, English)”), and Yu.V. Malakhova (“Language and Literature (Japanese, English)”), presented proposals to their colleagues regarding changes that could enhance their educational programs and improve the quality of teaching.
Following the results of the accreditation examination for the program “Language and Literature (Japanese, English)” and the relevant recommendations of the expert group and expert council, colleagues discussed the need to make changes to the final qualification exam programs, particularly the addition of practical translation tasks from both foreign languages studied in the program. Additionally, the head of the department, S.V. Perova, noted that under Criterion 6 “Human Resources” of the EQ and EQR, attention was given to compliance with point 1 of the licensing conditions, namely, the presence of publications in the field of lecturers’ activity in the program.
In the projects of the programs “Language and Literature (Chinese, English)” and “Language and Literature (Japanese, English),” an additional component “Introduction to Translation Studies” was added within the framework of the comprehensive discipline “Introduction to Specialty” with the aim of providing deeper theoretical preparation in the translation direction.
After attending the webinar conducted by NAHEQA on March 28, 2024, the program coordinators prepared a proposal for the introduction of a component aimed at providing students with skills in using computer technologies in their future professional activities, particularly in the use of CAT tools in translation. Following a detailed discussion among all participants of the meeting, it was decided that the component titled “Technologies of Automated Translation” would be introduced in all three educational programs in the 7th semester (3 ECTS credits).
The colleagues shared their thoughts and plans for further work on the educational programs, including discussions with students, alumni, and employers.
