Olympiad and Competition of Student Research Papers

The results of the Olympiad and Competition of Student Research Papers in the Ukrainian language for future lexicographers were summarized.

Teachers of the Ukrainian Language Department traditionally held an Olympiad and a Competition of Student Research Papers on the Ukrainian language for students majoring in “Secondary Education (Ukrainian Language and Literature)” of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism.

Olympiads and creative competitions, which are traditionally held by the Ukrainian Language Department, are one of the most popular and effective methods of working with gifted youth. Such measures help students to believe in their own strength, get closer to quality education, and strengthen their knowledge and skills. Students not only deepen their knowledge of the subject, but also develop intelligence, erudition, and the ability to communicate. The guarantee of a positive result is the daily hard work of the student and the teacher.

Future language teachers of the second, third and fourth year of study of the educational programs “Ukrainian Language and Literature” and “Ukrainian Language and Literature. Language and literature (English)”, specialty 014.01 “Secondary Education. Ukrainian Language and Literature” took part in the Olympiad.

So, the second- year students were asked to complete phonetics tasks, in particular, to write down the text using phonetic and phonemic transcription, identify phonetic phenomena in selected words, distribute words according to the principles of Ukrainian orthography, and determine the basics of Ukrainian spelling. Students were able to show their creative abilities while writing essays. Students of the third and fourth year of study during the performance of Olympiad tasks demonstrated the skills and abilities of individual solution of the problems, scientific thinking; revealed their intellectual potential and the level of complex language and speech training, which is the basis for the formation of professional competences of future teachers of lexicography.
