Meeting of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology
2.4.2024
On March 22, 2024, a meeting of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences was held.
During the meeting, the results of surveys of students of educational programs (EP) majoring in “Sociology” and “Sociology of Borderlands and National Security” over the past three years were discussed.
The education guarantor of the EP “Sociology” Kateryna Kotelenets made a presentation of the results of students’ surveys over the past three years. In the presentation, she demonstrated that indicators of the quality of educational programs (student satisfaction with the educational program, the evaluation system, methods of teaching educational components, the degree to which the program corresponds to the professional activity of a sociologist, the quality of educational content) for 2021-2023 do not change significantly, they steadily gravitate towards a high rating.
At the same time, she recommended paying attention to such an indicator of the quality of the EP as the orientation of educational components to the future profession. It is rated somewhat worse for educational components chosen by students than for mandatory educational components. The stable strengths of EPs of both educational levels in the last 2 years are the transparency and honesty of knowledge assessment and the quality of methodical materials. Proposals for supplementing the content of the EP have a single character. Remove traditionally offer higher mathematics. Kateryna Kotelenets noted the wider use of interactive forms of education and faster operation of the educational portal among the wishes of students.
Svitlana Khobta, guarantor of the EP “Sociology of Borderlands and National Security”, added that it is clear from the presentation of the results that it is necessary to continue to work on improving the understanding of the goal, tasks and expected learning outcomes for students, and to continue monitoring the expectations of applicants from the EP.
Conclusions were reached: to continue the chosen strategy of work on the EP, which allowed to ensure high quality of the EP, in particular, regarding the transparency and honesty of the assessment, the quality of methodical materials, etc.; more clearly and accessible formulation of the goal, tasks and expected results of training; to continue monitoring the expectations of applicants from EP; it is better to convey to the applicants the importance for a sociologist of higher mathematics; to raise issues with responsible persons regarding increasing the speed of the educational portal; to improve the methodological support of OC through the introduction of: the latest pedagogical methods (round table, educational discussion, brainstorming, training, business game, master class), wider use of tests, and visual materials.
