Meeting with writers – Anna Vovchenko and Olha Kupriian

On March 21, authors Anna Vovchenko (Kyiv) and Olha Kupriyan (Kyiv) visited Lubny.

The authors spoke with readers within the framework of the project of the Ukrainian PEN “Lace. Literary readings in small towns of Ukraine”. The moderator of the event is Maria Tytarenko (Lviv). The project is implemented with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.

The meeting took place in the Lubny public library named after Volodymyr Malyk, which was also visited by students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Olha Kupriian is a writer, a specialist in children’s reading. The author of 7 books for children and 5 for teenagers, including “Lola’s Diary”, the personal diary of the heroine of the famous series “#School”. She is a co-author of the book “Ya, Nina”, based on real events from the life of TV presenter Yanina Sokolova. The book received the BookForum Best Book Award 2020 in the category “Modern Ukrainian Prose”. She is an editor of the children’s reading support project “BaraBooka. The space of the Ukrainian children’s book”.

Anna Vovchenko is an editor, translator from English and Spanish. Among the translated books are Lucy-Maud Montgomery’s novels about Anne of Green Roofs, Geoffrey Eugenides’ The Middle Sex. Graduate of the “Metaphor” translation competition, laureate of the award of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine for a significant contribution to the popularization of Canadian literature abroad, and special award of the UNESCO City of Literature Award. She is a member and project manager of the Ukrainian PEN.

Maria Tytarenko is a writer, journalist, and lecturer. Founder of the Master’s Program in Media Communications at the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU). She teaches communication theory, creative writing, storytelling, dramaturgy of science, essay writing, artistic reportage, public speaking, etc. at UCU. She is an author of the books “Communication from scratch. Essays for Mani” and “Not muses, but muscles. 50 exercises in creative writing”. She is a member of the Ukrainian PEN.

During the meeting, attendees listened to the authors’ thoughts on writing, their sources of inspiration, important topics they cover in their works, as well as joint projects or collaborations. The meeting was a great opportunity for fans of their work to ask questions, share their impressions and enrich their reading experience.
