Lectures by Professor from the University of Bologna

During February-March 2024, students of the educational programs “Translation (English and another foreign language (Chinese)),” “Language and Literature (Chinese, English),” “Language and Literature (Japanese, English),” and the lecturers of the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation Studies participated in public lectures on the topic of training oral interpreters and simultaneous interpreters, conducted by Professor Mariachiara Russo from the University of Bologna.

The lecturer addressed issues such as basic testing, which is necessary during the preparation of future conference interpreters, and the qualities that students must necessarily or preferably possess for a successful career as oral interpreters, as well as problems of evaluating translation quality. A lecture on the peculiarities of interpreters᾽ brains and brain processes involved in the process of oral translation sparked particular interest among students. Attendees had the opportunity to learn whether oral translation can be learned or if it is an innate ability.
