Meeting of the Youth Club of Eastern Cultures, dedicated to traditional dances of the countries of the Far East

Future orientalists together with their teachers held another meeting of the Youth Club of Oriental Cultures

On March 01, 2024, a meeting of the Youth Club of Oriental Cultures was held under the leadership of Associate Professor Daria Perepadya. The topic of discussion was traditional dances of the Far East.

Students and teachers prepared reports and vivid presentations. Sofia Nedohybchenko, 1st year student, presented a report on “Korean Traditional Dances” and conducted a master class on the 강강술래 dance and a separate part – 손치기 발치기. Valeriia Zapoteieva, a 3rd year student, revealed the peculiarities of the Chinese folk dance “英歌” and introduced the traditions associated with the festival where this dance is traditionally performed. She also spoke about the origin of the performers’ makeup, which has its roots in traditional Chinese costumes. Svitlana Esakova, a 4th year student, dedicated her presentation to the Lion Dance (舞狮). She invited the club members to watch a video of artists performing this dance.

Associate Professor Yulia Malakhova shared her own experience of celebrating the Spring Festival and presented a report on “Dragon Dance in Modern China” (舞龙), demonstrating performances by Chinese acrobats.

The meeting was held in a warm atmosphere. All participants took part in discussions, shared their impressions.
