Birthday of Taras Shevchenko

Today, March 9, 2024, Ukraine marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Taras Hrygorovych Shevchenko – the great Kobzar, outstanding Ukrainian poet and artist.

This day has long since become a large-scale national holiday. In the mind of every citizen of our country T.H. Shevchenko takes the place of a national hero. Thanks to his life and work, the great artist inspired and inspires the patriots of Ukraine to fight for truth, freedom and the future of our mother Ukraine.

Since 1939, one of the oldest higher educational institutions of the Eastern Ukrainian region, which is now relocated to the Poltava region, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University proudly bears the name of our outstanding writer, a person who accomplished so much in his lifetime that his works are enough for contemporaries

The past, present and future of the Ukrainian people, the right of every person to a free, happy life are inextricably linked with the name of Kobzar. Being worthy of the name of Taras Shevchenko now means constantly enriching yourself spiritually, protecting your native language, believing in an independent state and working for the good of Ukraine.

Taras Shevchenko is considered an outstanding classic of poetry written in the Ukrainian language, which has become an incorruptible and important part of the spiritual unity of our people. His poems are known all over the world and translated into many different languages, in which he exposed the injustice and oppression of the common Ukrainian people by the Russian Empire.

Shevchenko also belongs to the cohort of famous Ukrainian artists. Several hundred works of art belong to his brush, many of them are considered lost. Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko represents the literary prophet of the Ukrainian nation, and his works are an integral part of the development of the patriotic spirit of the citizens of our country.

Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University lives by the work of the Great Kobzar and honors his poetic words.

Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko is an eternal flame that will never go out in the hearts of our students and teachers and all Ukrainians, and the work of the great Kobzar is an inviolable shrine that we are proud of and appreciate.

We, the descendants of the outstanding poet, will always warm in our souls that flame of boundless love for our native Motherland, which was kindled by the eternal son of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko, with his immortal works.
