Participation in the round table

The Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and International Relations took part in the round table “Two years of full-scale Russian aggression. The war for Ukraine is a war for Europe.”

On February 21, 2024, Olena Mezhenska, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and International Relations of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, joined the Round Table “Two years of Russia’s full-scale aggression. The war for Ukraine is a war for Europe”, which was organized by the General Directorate for the Service of Foreign Missions, the Center for Military Legal Studies, the Center for Political Studies “Doctrine and the Institute of Foreign Policy Studies.

The following issues were discussed during the Round Table:

  • Ukraine as an example of a country with an effective armed resistance to the overwhelming forces of a terrorist state.
  • The historical collapse of the policy of “appeasement” of the aggressor.
  • The failure of the strategic plans of the Russian Empire.
  • The situation on the battlefield, the gains and losses of the parties on land, at sea and in the air.
  • Modern types of weapons, advanced technologies, artificial intelligence are the main factors in achieving victory on the battlefield.
  • Analysis of global political and economic risks in the conditions of prolonged Russian aggression. Changes in the international security environment (existing and expected).
  • Ways of consolidating the efforts of the collective West in opposing dictatorial regimes as a constant threat to world civilization.

During the professional discussion, not only the current situation, taking into account the military and political achievements of Ukraine during the two years of the war, were touched upon, it was also about Ukraine’s persuasive position on not allowing any alternatives and compromises regarding the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia. Summarizing the work of the round table, everyone agreed with insufficient sanctions pressure on Russia and the military component of assistance to Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor, which can pose a real threat to European countries and NATO.
