Improving knowledge of academic integrity

Students of the ER INAS improved their knowledge of academic integrity thanks to the lecture “Academic Integrity in Institutions of Higher Education”.
In order to popularize the principles of academic integrity in the educational process, the Educational and Research Institute of Natural and Agrarian Sciences organized a meeting of applicants and teachers with Oksana Shevchyk, the leading librarian of LTSNU. During the meeting, the students learned about the principles of academic integrity, procedures and regulatory documentation that govern all participants in the educational process at our university.
The main document governing the participants of the educational process is the Regulation on academic integrity of the participants of the educational process of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. Emphasis was placed on ethical principles and values, academic responsibility of all participants in the educational process; types of violations of academic integrity (academic plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, writing off, bribery, biased evaluation).
The participants of the meeting were particularly interested in practical advice on how to avoid plagiarism in practice and strategies for avoiding plagiarism. Ms. Oksana explained in detail, with specific examples, how to use citations, paraphrasing, generalizations and references. In addition, applicants learned about the software with which you can independently check your texts for the presence of borrowings from other author’s texts and the main types of copyright violations.
Also, one of the aspects of the meeting was familiarization of the applicants with the work of the university repository, which provides free access to educational materials and the results of scientific research of university scientists. During the meeting, awardees had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss important aspects of academic integrity. The participants of the meeting expressed their interest in further seminars, trainings and expanded knowledge on this topic.
