The Beginning of Christmas Advent at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology and Journalism

On December 6, a series of events called “Christmas Advent at the Department of Romance & Germanic Philology” began at the Department of Romance & Germanic Philology of the Institute of the Philology and Journalism.

The first event called “Magic of Christmas. Deutsche Zauberei von Weihnachten” was conducted by the lecturer of the department Iryna Viktorivna Skliarova.

 At the beginning of the event, everyone observed a moment of silence to remember the heroes-defenders of Ukraine, because December 6 is not only St. Nicholas Day, but also the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Students and teachers, as well as guest schoolchildren of the 11-A and 11-B classes of the Communal Institution of General Secondary Education “Lyceum No.13 of the Khmelnytskyi City Council” were invited. Those present learned more about the traditions and symbols of Christmas holidays in German-speaking countries, discussed the peculiarities of Advent, studied vocabulary on the topic and repeated grammatical constructions. Interesting facts and the educational material were accompanied by interactive exercises and games, in which the participants of the event were able to test the acquired knowledge. At the end, everyone tried to create their Christmas wish list in German and write a letter to Santa Claus.
