Thanksgiving Day at the Department of Romance & Germanic Philology
1.12.2023
Students and teachers of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology took an active part in the celebration of the Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving is an annual national holiday in the United States and Canada, dedicated to the harvest and other blessings of the year. The American holiday is particularly rich in legend and symbolism, and traditional Thanksgiving dishes usually include turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. Today, the holiday has moved away from its religious roots to allow immigrants from different backgrounds to join in the common tradition. The holiday, associated with the Pilgrims and Native Americans, came to symbolize intercultural peace, America’s opportunities for newcomers, and the sanctity of home and family.
Winners of the 1st and 2nd years and teachers of the department of Romano-Germanic philology did not stand aside and took an active part in the celebration. The moderator of the online event was acting head of the department, Ph.D. Nailia Farytivna Khairulina. Future philologists learned more about the history, customs and traditions of the Thanksgiving holiday. In particular, the students watched the presentation and video of the history of the holiday, answered the quiz questions on the Educational Portal. The participants of the event expressed their thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to their relatives, to each other for everything they have, for existence, for life, for the opportunity to study even in difficult conditions for our university and Ukraine as a whole, for well-being, warmth, food, light, Internet.
Thank you to our patrons and we look forward to another great year ahead! The year of our VICTORY!
