Holodomor Memorial Day in Myrhorod
23.11.2023
On November 23, representatives of the structural subdivisions of LTSNU located in Myrhorod visited the Myrhorod Children’s and Youth Library for an event commemorating the memory of the Holodomor victims.
Every year on the fourth Saturday of November, Ukrainians all over the world commemorate the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 and the mass artificial famines of 1921–1923 and 1946–1947.
The event was conducted by bibliographer Yulia Denysenko and spoke about the events of 1932-1933, which were massive in most of the territories of our country. Also, Yulia Mykolaivna noted that after gaining independence, Ukraine has come a long way in accepting and realizing the consequences of the Holodomor. And the opening of the archives and active research on this issue revealed the truth about the evil deeds of the Soviet authorities both for Ukrainians and for the whole world.
Despite all prohibitions and silence, Ukrainians have always remembered and will remember how the Soviet government tried to destroy the Ukrainian nation through hunger. Ukrainians outside the USSR also kept the memory of communist crimes, passing it on to their descendants from 1933 until today.
Yulia Mykolaivna also introduced the audience to the library literature in which the issues of the Holodomor are revealed, and the memories of eyewitnesses of those terrible events are recorded. At the end of the event, everyone could view the thematic exposition.
Those present honored the memory of the Holodomor victims by lighting a memorial candle and observing a moment of silence.
Tragic events and crimes of today prove: living memory is extremely important; those who commit crimes against humanity must be condemned by the world community and the victims honored.
