A guest lecture was held for students and teachers of LTSNU by Mark Feygin.
On November 14, 2023, a guest lecture was held on the Zoom platform for students and teachers of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University on the topic: “Blogging as a Means of Political Communication.”
The speaker of the event was Mark Feygin, Russian oppositionist, human rights defender, politician, journalist, analyst, candidate of legal sciences. Mark Feygin consistently defended the principles of democracy and humanism, which formed the plane of opposition to Putin’s government. In the difficult conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, he takes an active part in the discussion on radio, television and social networks of topics relevant to Ukraine, explaining to the Ukrainian society the issues of Russian policy.
The event was initiated by the Department of Journalism and Publishing. The meeting was organized by the joint efforts of the Rector Olena Karaman, the head of the Academic Council, the First Vice-Rector Vitalii Kurylo and the head of the Department of Journalism and Publishing Olga Kutsevska, who introduced the distinguished guest.
The Russian oppositionist talked about the unjust decision of the Council of the Moscow Bar Association in 2018 to deprive him of his legal status, about the fact that in 2022 the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation recognized him as a “foreign agent”, and the following year the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia announced that he was wanted, about the documented crimes of Russia in the war against Ukraine, being an eyewitness in Bakhmut, Kherson, Kupiansk.
Mark Feygin, having extensive experience in the blogosphere and running his information and analytical YouTube channel “Feygin Life” with more than 2 million subscribers, talked about the formation of the blogosphere as a new type of media tool in the information space. Emphasizing that during martial law, information alone is not enough, fact-finding and professional analysis and interpretation of information, trends and forecasting of future developments are also important.
The meeting was extremely interesting and productive. The media representative willingly answered the questions. They related to the political situation in Russia and Ukraine; support of Ukraine by Western partners; countering fakes and disinformation; compliance by journalists with professional standards, etc.
Students note that the dialogue with interesting personalities provides an opportunity to acquire unique practical experience and systematize theoretical knowledge, learn about the world and shape oneself as a successful individual.
We thank Mark Feygin for the meaningful conversation and hope to continue our dialogue!
